Issue of potential separatism- case of Scotland

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce bylo zjistit charakter skotského nacionalismu resp. jestli je devolučního či secesionistického rázu. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. první z nich je teoretická část, která konceptualizuje pojmy jako národ, národní identita či nacionalismus. V teto části je poté teoretizován vztah mezi nacionalismem a různými formami sebeurčení. Praktická část je zaměřena na analýzu faktorů, které charakter skotského nacionalismu ovlivňují. Analýza probíhá mezi lety 1707 - 2017, tedy od vzniku Unie až po současnost. Nutno podotknout, že mezi lety 1707 - 1934 se jedná jen o popis vývoje skotského nacionalismu, kdy na toto období není brán velký zřetel z důvodu neexistence průzkumů veřejného mínění atp. Vybral jsem celkem čtyři proměnné, které mají na charakter skotského nacionalismu největší vliv. Jedná se o politickou a ekonomickou situaci, národní identitu a členství VB v EU.

Abstract:

Purpose of this bachelor thesis is to describe character of scottish nationalism whether it is more seccesionist or devolucionist. This thesis is divided in two different parts. In the theoretical part I deal with notions such as nation, state, national identity and nationalism. Description of these notions is followed by second part of theoretical part in which I generalize relationship between nationalism and forms of self-determination such as autonomy, devolution, federation or secession. Practical part is concerned with analysis of main factors which can influence character of scottish nationalism. The period which take place in the practional party is since 1707 until these days but there is little bit said about period between 1707 1934 because there were no relavant data or surveys on issue of support for independence or any other form of self-determination. As for the main determinant of scottish nationalism I picked up four possible variables which could possibly influence it the most. These I chose to analyse were current political and economical situation, national identities and membership in EU and how much do they affect character of scottish nationalism.
