Use of the principles of behavioural economics in the gaming industry with a focus on individual business models

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou principů behaviorální ekonomie, které jsou využívány v herním průmyslu. Toto odvětví kreativního průmyslu je dnes významnou součástí a tahounem digitální ekonomiky, kdy digitální distribuce her významně roste. S tímto nárůstem je spojené stále častější využívání marketingu k ovlivňování lidské psychiky, kterému se věnuje právě behaviorální ekonomie. Ta propojuje psychologické poznatky s těmi ekonomickými a snaží se predikovat lidské jednání daleko lépe, než je to možné za pomoci klasických ekonomických modelů. Cílem této rešeršní práce je popsat a porovnat jednotlivé obchodní modely, které herní průmysl využívá k dosažení zisku, a provést následné vyhodnocení. Bude se jednat například o model buy-to-play, využití mikrotransakcí nebo subscription model. Právě poslednímu modelu bude v práci věnovaná zvýšená pozornost, neboť v posledních letech v audiovizuální kultuře zaznamenal velký úspěch.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the principles of behavioural economics, which are used in the gaming industry. Today, this creative industry is an important part and driver of the digital economy, with digital game distribution growing significantly. This increase is also associated with the increasing use of marketing to influence the human psyche, which is addressed in behavioural economics. It connects psychological knowledge with economical and tries to predict human behaviour much better than it does with the help of classical economic models. This research work aims to describe and compare the individual business models that are used in the gaming industry to make a profit, and to perform a subsequent evaluation. This will be, for example, the buy-to-play, the use of microtransactions or a subscription model. It is the last model that will receive increased attention in the work, due to its great success in audiovisual culture in recent years.
