Votive paintings of the 18th century in Czech Silesia. To the iconography of so-called fire paintings and its relationship to reality

Abstract:

"Požární" obraz jako dar bohu za uchránění města od požáru. Podobnost výjevu s reálnou skutečností a kult svatého Floriána ve Slezsku. Během 17. a 18. století bylo Slezsko zmítáno mnoha devastujícími požáry, které měly za následek vznik těchto votivních darů ve formě obrazu. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá jednak původem vzniku těchto obrazů, jejich zadavateli a především jak reálně autoři zachytili město, ve kterém se požár odehrál. Pro srovnání "požárních" obrazů s historickou skutečností jsou použity především dobové veduty, které zachycují totožná města. Pro přehled všech výše zmíněných popisů a srovnání je na konci práce uveden přehledný výběrový katalog některých votivních obrazů, "požárních" obrazů, milostných obrazů a vedut ve Slezsku, které zobrazují pohledy na města.

Abstract:

So-called fire painting as a gift to the god for protecting city for fire. The similarity in diplaying of scene and the reality and a cult of the St. Florian in the Silesia. Many devastating fires hit Silesia during 17th and 18th century which resulted in creation of the votive gifts in form of pictures. This bachelor thesis deals with the origin of the paintings, its assigner mainly level of authenticity with a real city proportions that author used to display a place where a fire striked. Contemporary vedutes that display identical cities were primarily used for comparison of so-called fire paingings with a reality. For a purpose of overview of all the descriptions and comparisons mentioned above, there is selective catalog in the end of the thesis that contains votive paintings, so-called fire paintings, love pictures and vedutes in Silesia that displays views of the cities.
