Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „The Ballad of Sand and Harry Soot jako příklad hypertextové fikce“ se zabývá hypertextovou fikcí autorky Stephanie Strickland z roku 1999. Dějem této balady je vztah mezi dvěma postavami, ženou jménem Sand a mužem jménem Harry Soot. Celý příběh je prostoupen metaforami týkajícími se vztahu mezi člověkem a strojem. Umělecká složka v podobě fotografií, obrázků a animací zase svou podstatou odkazuje k digitálnímu světu. Cílem práce je především analyzovat v tomto díle vlastnosti hypertextu definované Georgem P. Landowem v jeho knize Hypertext 3.0: Critical theory and new media in an Era of Globalization (2006). Práce se dále zaměří na strukturu díla včetně popisu jeho umělecké složky a struktury hypertextových linků v tomto díle. Jako poslední bude popsána role čtenáře při čtení a interpretaci tohoto díla, kterou bude porovnána s teorií ergodicity Espena J. Aarsetha a teorií otevřeného uměleckého díla Umberta Eca. V závěru práce bude představena krátké úvaha nad budoucností hypertextové fikce.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis "The Ballad of Sand and Harry Soot as an example of hypertext fiction" deals with hypertext fiction of Stephanie Strickland from year 1999. Plot of the ballad is a relationship between two characters: woman named Sand and man named Harry Soot. The whole story is pervaded by metaphors concerning relationship between human and machine. The artistic component in form of photographs, images and animations refers by its substance to the digital age. The goal of the thesis is mainly to analyze in the work the hypertext properties defined by George P. Landow in his book Hypertext 3.0: Critical theory and new media in an Era of Globalization (2006). The thesis further focuses on the work structure including description of its artistic component and structure of hypertext links in the work. Lastly will be described role of the reader during reading and interpretation of the work, which will be compared to the ergodic theory by Espen J. Aarseth and theory of open work of art by Umberto Eco. In the conclusion of the thesis will be presented a short contemplation about the future of hypertext fiction.
