Dějem této balady je vztah mezi dvěma postavami, ženou jménem Sand a mužem jménem Harry Soot. Celý příběh je prostoupen metaforami týkajícími se vztahu mezi člověkem a strojem. The bachelor thesis "The Ballad of Sand and Harry Soot as an example of hypertext fiction" deals with hypertext fiction of Stephanie Strickland from year 1999.
