The Posters by Alfons Mucha for the Actress Sarah Bernhardt

Abstract:

Tématem ,,Plakáty Alfonse Muchy pro herečku Sarah Bernhardtovou“ se snažím postihnout šestileté období, ve které Mucha pracoval pro divadlo a herečku Sarah Bernhardtovou. V úvodu práce stručně charakterizuji historii secesního plakátu a jeho představitele ve Francii a v Čechách. Nastiňuji také dobovou atmosféru a události, které přispěly k vrcholu reklamního plakátu v Paříži. Plakát se v době secese stal novým způsobem, který umožňoval zaplnit ulice uměleckými díly, stal se tak fenoménem, který bude k secesi vždy neodmyslitelně patřit. V rámci Muchova zobrazení Bernhardtové jsem do práce zahrnula i další umělce pro které se stala inspirací. Důležitou částí je sedm plakátů, které výtvarník během šestileté smlouvy zhotovil. Popisuji jednotlivé plakáty, jejich kompozici a za jakých okolností vznikly. Krom plakátů se Mucha podílel i na návrzích kostýmů, účesů a šperků, které měla herečka během představení na sobě, nebo které Mucha na plakáty nakreslil. Reflektuji vlivy na Muchovu tvorbu, jak z hlediska doby ve které výtvarník působil, tak i ze strany dalších umělců a učitelů, kteří se na vývoji jeho tvorby podíleli. Součástí práce je i způsob, jakým Mucha zobrazoval své ženy na plakátech. Do jaké míry se na tom podílely dobové ideály nebo Muchův moravský původ. Prioritní se stává zobrazení Sarah Bernhardtové.

Abstract:

Summary The topic of my essey is ,,The Posters by Alfons Mucha for the Actress Sarah Bernhardt“ in six year period. I tried to explain this period of Alfons Mucha when he was working for theatre and actress Sarah Bernhardt. At the beginning of essay I described the history of secession posters and their representatives in France and Bohemia. Specially emphasize the typical contemporary atmosphere and events which contributed to development of the advertising posters in Paris. At the time of secession the posters became the brand-new style which filled the streets, the city areas, the sea banks etc. by artistic works. Simply said, the posters are essential part of secession You can notice that I included in terms of my work „the posters of Bernhardt“ the others artists inspired by actress Sarah Bernhardt. The important part of my issue are seven posters in Mucha six year contract. with Sarah Bernhardt. I described step by step the posters, their history and surrounding circumstances. Further I paid attention to the other productions which Mucha made for Bernhardt, for example : theatre costumes, hairstyles, jewellery wore by performance or painted in her portrait. I noticed the effects of Mucha creation on two points of view, the first is the era he was creating his paintings and the second is the affect from other artists. Very important part of my essey is the way how Mucha portrailed women on his posters, specialy Sarah Bernhardt and how contemporary ideals ispired him and also his Moravian origin.
