The transformation of anglophone music reflection and its criticism in the space of musical electronic magazines during the last 15 years

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá proměnou reflexe anglofonní hudby a její kritiky v prostoru hudebních elektronických časopisů v posledních 15. letech a jejím cílem je zanalyzovat způsob, kterým se reflektovala a kritizovala hudba v období, kdy došlo k masovému vzniku a rozšíření těchto médií. Práce se věnuje základním pojmům souvisejícím s vybranou problematikou a popisuje teoretická východiska spojená s hudební žurnalistikou, hudební kritikou a charakteristikou hudební recenze jako základního prvku hudební kritiky. Následně dochází ke sledování procesu popularizace hudby v mediálním prostoru s bližším zaměřením na proměnu masové komunikace v globální síti, hudební internetová média a jejich klasifikaci, problémy v oblasti distribuce hudby s rozšířením streamingu a celkovou transformaci hudební sféry s rozvojem streamingové ekonomiky. Práce mapuje změny hudební reflexe a hudební kritiky ovlivněné internetovými médii a v rámci případové studie ověřuje evidované proměny na příkladu tří vybraných britských časopisů, jimiž jsou The Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine a God is in the TV.

Abstract:

This master's thesis deals with the transformation of the reflection of the English-language music and its criticism in electronic music magazines over the past 15 years, and its aim is to analyze the way in which music was reflected and criticized in the era of massive appearance and spread of media. The theoretical part of the work begins with the presentation of the basic concepts related to the selected issues, and describes the theoretical basis associated with music journalism, music criticism and the characterization of the music review as a basic element of music criticism. After that, the paper monitors the process of popularization of music in the media with a focus on the transformation of media in the global network, the appearance of online music media and its classification, problems in the distribution of music due to the spread of streamings, as well as the general transformation of the music sector with the development of the economy of streamings. The paper demostrates the changes in music reflection and music criticism under the influence of online media and in terms of topical research confirms the fixed metamorphoses using three selected British magazines as examples, including The Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine and God is in the TV.
