Analysis of the 24th year (2020) of the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se zabýváme analýzou 24. ročníku (2020) mezinárodního festivalu dokumentárního filmů Ji.hlava. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V rámci teoretické častí je definován pojem filmový festival a jeho funkce. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována teorie rozdělení filmových festivalů, která slouží pro pochopení způsobů financování této události. Následně práce zohledňuje povahu autorskoprávních vztahů mezi festivalem a filmovými tvůrci. Práce nesmí zapomenout na popis organizační a dramaturgické složky daného festivalu. Účelem první části této práci je vytvořit teoretickou základnu pro případovou studii v praktické části. Následující část práce je věnovaná detailnímu popisu změn festivalu, ke kterým došlo v důsledků přechodu události do online prostředí. Těžištěm pro tuto část práci sloužili osobní rozhovor s výkonnou ředitelkou a vedoucí produkce festivalu a veřejně dostupné zdroje informace. Identifikovala jsem všechny změny, které v této částí práce jsou obsazené v podkapitolách odpovídajících projektové struktuře. Jsou zde rozpracované místní, časové, programové a finanční změny. Zkoumání těchto změn pomocí deskriptivní metody přináší identifikaci klíčových faktorů potřebných pro úspěšné pořádání festivalu.

Abstract:

This thesis analyses organization of the 24th year (2020) of the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. The work is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The concept of a film festival and its functions is defined in the first chapters. In addition, this part focuses on the theory of distribution of film festivals, which later serves to understand the ways of financing this type of event. Subsequently, we take into account the nature of copyright relations between the festival and filmmakers. What is more, the thesis describes organizational and dramaturgical components of the festival. The purpose of the first part is to create a theoretical basis for case studies in the practical part. The following part of the work is devoted to detailed descriptions of the changes that occurred as a result of the festival transitioning to the online environment. The source for the practical part of the thesis is an interview with the executive director and head of production of the festival. Other sources include publicly available information concerning the festival. All the changes were identified and are comprised in the contents of the thesis. Some of the difficulties included local and time change, program and financial changes. The research used descriptive method, which resulted in identifying key alterations needed for the successful holding of the festival.
