The Positive Aspects of Relationship Development with Stepfathers from the Perspective of Adult Stepdaughters

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je vývoj pozitivních vztahů nevlastních dcer s nevlastními otci. Cílem kvalitativního výzkumu bylo zjistit, jaké pozitivní aspekty ve vývoji vztahu s nevlastním otcem retrospektivně vnímaly dospělé nevlastní dcery. Sedm rozhovorů bylo analyzováno metodou tematické analýzy. Výsledky přinesly zjištění, že nevlastní dcery vnímaly nejvíce pozitivních aspektů v přístupu nevlastního otce k nim. Nevlastní otec se s nimi snažil budovat vztah, respektoval jejich vztahy s vlastními rodiči, uspokojoval jejich emocionální potřeby, přinesl jim a jejich rodině řadu zisků a v mnoha směrech je pozitivně obohatil. Pro některé se stal druhým nebo i lepším otcem. Nevlastní dcery přisuzovaly pozitivní roli také svým matkám a to jejich snaze zachovat pro ně nastavení původní rodiny a budovat rodinu novou, zejména podporovat navázání jejich vztahu s nevlastním otcem iniciováním společných aktivit a rolí prostředníka mezi nimi. Pozitivní vliv na vztah s nevlastním otcem měl také jednotný a ohleduplný přístup matky a nevlastního otce. Nevlastní dcery přisuzovaly pozitivní roli i svému postoji a chování k nevlastnímu otci a uváděly některé klíčové události, které jejich vztah s nevlastním otcem také pozitivně ovlivnily. Výsledky výzkumu byly diskutovány v kontextu dosavadních zjištění.

Abstract:

The master thesis´s topic is development of positive relationships of stepdaughters with their stepfathers. The objective of the qualitative research was to find out, what positive aspects adult stepdaughters retrospectively perceived in relationship progress with their stepfather. Seven interviews were analyzed by the thematic analysis method. The results have determined that stepdaughters have seen the most positive aspects in their stepfather´s approach towards them. Stepfathers have tried to build the mutual relationship, respected relations with own parents, satisfied their emotional needs, brought numerous benefits to them and their family and positively enrich them in many ways. He has become their second or even better father for some of them. Stepdaughters attributed the positive role to their mothers as well, especially to their effort to preserve the setting of original family and to build up the new family. They have particularly supported establishment of their relationship with stepfather through the initiating of joint activities and holding the role of the intermediary. The positive influence on the relationship with stepfather has had also the integrated and considerate approach of mother and stepfather. Stepdaughters have considered the positive role also in their attitude and behavior towards stepfather and have mentioned some key moments that positively affected their relations. The investigations outcomes were discussed in the context of the prior findings.
