Frame analysis of nuclear energetics by Czech political elites

Abstract:

Cílem práce „Rámování jaderné energetiky českými politickými elitami“ je představit, jakým způsobem české politické elity rámují témata spojená s jadernou energetikou a jadernou energií. Analýza rámů byla poprvé představena Ervingem Goffmanem. Tato analýza nám může poskytnout hlubší vhled do sociálně konstruované reality projevů týkajících se jaderné energetiky. Její vnímání je ovlivňováno jak domácími, tak mezinárodními událostmi a aktéry, jež jsou v práci reflektovány. Teoretickým základem práce je idealistická ontologie, jež krom jiného klade důraz na sociálně konstruovanou realitu. V souvislosti s tématem práce vyjadřuje, že vnímání daného konceptu určuje úhel pohledu, ze kterého bude na téma nahlíženo. Tím pádem percepce daného konceptu přímo ovlivňuje politickou diskusi. S touto teorií souvisí i další užitý teoretický základ, jímž je konstruktivistická teorie. Ta je s konceptem rámování přímo spojena a tvrdí, že realita je sociálně konstruována. V tomto případě klade důraz na konstruované pojmy, jež se pak stávají nosným pilířem debat. To, jak politické elity téma rámují, ovlivňuje jeho vnímání veřejností a zároveň určuje směr diskuse. Na konci práce jsou poznání a nalezené rámy zasazeny do širšího kontextu.

Abstract:

The aim of this work called „Framing of the nuclear energetics by the Czech political elites“ is to introduce just how the topics related to nuclear energy and nuclear energetics are framed by the Czech political elites. Frame analysis was first introduces by Erving Goffman. This frame analysis can offer deeper look into socially constructed reality of speeches about nuclear energetics. Its perception is influenced by both domestic and international issues and actors which are both reflected in the analysis. The theoretical basis of this diploma is idealistic ontology, which among other things concentrates on socially constructed reality. In line with the topic this work argues that perception of a given concept determines the point of view from which the concept will be discussed. Therefore perception of this given concept directly influences political discussion. Also another theoretical background- constructivist theory is connected to the frame analysis. Constructivist theory is a basis for the theory of framing in a way that says the reality is socially constructed through actors’ actions and perceptions. In this case constructed ideas and conceptions are accented which then become pillars of related debates. The way political elites frame topics influences its perception by the public and yet sets the course of the discussion. In the final part the findings and identified frames are set to a broader context.
