Social life on the background of the changes in the Moravian countryside during late socialism (PhD Thesis Proposal)

Abstract:

Na pozadí zájmu o společenský život ve venkovských obcích jihozápadní Moravy během pozdního socialismu lze sledovat sociálních proměny v širších souvislostech. Každodenní život na venkově se měnil nejen díky mocenským zásahům, ale i v souladu se snahami vesnických komunit uchovat si vlastní tradice a identitu pod tlakem modernizačních procesů. Vedle dalších fenoménů (oficiální slavnosti, akce „Z“, slučování obcí, alternativní kultura, život sportovních organizací) jsou v disertační práci sledovány taneční zábavy jako symbol společenského života, který se nevyhnul nutnosti adaptace v souladu s regulacemi a nařízeními autoritativní moci. Za účelem jejich organizace se lidé na venkově iniciativně sdružovali ve společenských organizacích, aby mohli žádat o patřičné „razítko“ umožňující pořádání kulturní akce. Měli totiž zájem o konání zábav ve své obci díky jejich tradiční socializační funkci. Taneční zábavy však také ve zvýšené míře čelily modernizačním procesům odrážejícím se nejen ve způsobu socializace a hudebním vkusu. Předkládané interpretace jsou postaveny na principech mikrohistorie, dějin každodennosti a symbolické antropologie. V neposlední řadě však navazují na tradici etnografického výzkumu současné vesnice a z metodologického hlediska se inspirují ve způsobu zaznamenávání vzpomínek pomocí orální historie. Disertační práce předkládá na základě specifického a úzce vymezeného tématu obecněji pojaté otázky související nejen s kontinuitou venkovských společenství, ale i s post socialistickou nostalgií a vlivem hodnot, nálad a představ venkovských obyvatel na vnímání současnosti.

Abstract:

The interest in social life in the south-western Moravian countryside during the late socialism era presents a starting point for reflecting the wider contexts of social changes. Changes in everyday life were influenced not only by the pressure of the state power but also by local communities’ efforts to save their own traditions and identity in the background of the modernization processes. In addition to other reflected phenomena (official festivities, merging of municipalities, alternative culture, sports organizations) the dance parties as a symbol of social life create a key field of presented interpretations. Dance parties had to be adapted to the regulations of authoritative power and rural people often actively joined public organizations of the socialist state to earn compulsory authorization of state administrative and be able to organize them. They had interest in organizing dance parties as important socializing occasions for their communities. They were also under the pressure of modernization processes reflected not only in the form of socialization or performed music genre. Presented interpretations are based on the principles of the microhistory approach, the history of everyday life and the symbolic anthropology. Doctoral research is established on the tradition of Czech ethnology in the contemporary countryside research and methodologically it is based on the principles of oral history approach and its impact on practices of collecting memories. The dissertation thesis stands on the background of narrowly framed research but tends to raise wider questions connected with continuity of the rural communities, the recent post-socialist nostalgia and the impact of norms and values of the traditional countryside. The reflection of contexts connected with continuity can help to understand the recent issues of rural communities.
