(Non)conformity in the world of normative sexuality

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na působení sexuálních norem v západním světě. Je přiblížena provázanost sociálních praktik a podmínek, které vytvořily a udržují obraz „normální“ a „nenormální“ sexuality ve společnosti, pozornost je pak věnována zejména roli vědy a udržování statu quo prostřednictvím idejí zdraví a přirozenosti. Dále je popsán mechanismus tlaku ke konformitě, všeobecná heteronormativita, snahy o unifikaci podoby sexu, hierarchizace sexuálních praktik, normativní povaha řeči a myšlení o odlišnostech, genderované role v tradičních sexuálních scénářích, mediální vliv, imperativ vymezení a pojmenování sexuálních preferencí a pronikání sociálních norem do osobních tužeb. Nakonec jsou prozkoumány současné tendence v sexuálních projevech a stručně je shrnuta jejich historie, která ukazuje vývoj norem, působení vědeckého diskurzu a kořeny současného chápání sexuality. V práci je zohledněna zejména perspektiva mocenských vztahů a práce Foucaulta a Fafejty.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the effects of sexual norms in Western world. It is clarified how coherence of social practices and conditions causes and maintains image of “normal“ and “abnormal“ sexuality in society and the attention is especially focused on the role of science and maintaining status quo through the image of health and nature. The work also describes the mechanism of pressure to conform, general heteronormativity, efforts to unify the form of sex, hierarchization of sexual practices, normative nature of language and thinking about differences, gendered roles in traditional sexual scripts, the impact of media, social imperative to define and entitle sexual preferences and the way social norms penetrate personal desires. Eventually current tendencies are investigated and brief history of sexual transformations is described, which shows the development of norms, impact of science discourse and the roots of current perception of sexuality. The thesis is based especially on the perspective of power relations and the work of Foucault and Fafejta.
