Abstract:

Ariánské baptisterium v Ravenně je jedinou stavbou, o níž s jistotou víme, že sloužilo ariánskému kultu. A společně se svou klenební mozaikou je tak jedním z mála dochovaných důkazů o arianismu. V této práci je představen možný kulturní a teologický význam, který tato dekorace mohla mít ve vztahu k ariánské křestní liturgii. Která je z důvodu nedostatku dochovaných pramenů velkou záhadou. Pomocí srovnávání s ariánskými mozaikami v Sant’Apollinare Nuovo a klenební výzdobou v baptisteriu Ortodoxních, se tato práce pokouší poukázat, že význam ariánských mozaik je možné spatřit právě v nejednoznačnosti jejich interpretace. Pomocí detailní ikonologické analýzy, vhledu do ambrosiánské křestní liturgie a analýzy textů církevních otců se lze domnívat, že to byla právě ona variabilita čtení, jenž uchránila ariánské klenební mozaiky od jejich zničení po ortodoxním vysvěcení mezi lety 566 a 570. Tato Práce rovněž nabízí několik hypotéz pro odůvodnění stylové různorodosti klenební mozaiky Ariánského baptisteria. Ujasňuje otázku jejich datace a přestavuje teorii o významu znovupoužitého stavebního materiálů baptisteria.

Abstract:

Arian Baptistery in Ravenna is the only baptistery securely known to have been used by Arians.It is also one of the few preserved proofs of Arianism, together with its dome mosaics. This study presents the possible cultural and theological significance that this decoration could have in relation to the Arian baptismal ritual. Which is a great mystery, due to the lack of preserved sources. By comparing the Arian mosaics in Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and the dome mosaics in the Orthodox Baptistery, this work attempts to show that the significance of the Arian mosaics can be seen in the ambiguity of their interpretation. This study is using detailed iconological analysis, insight into the ambrosian baptismal liturgy and examination of the texts of patristic exeges; to show that it could have been precisely the reading variability, that preserved the dome mosaics from destruction after Orthodox consecration, between 566 and 570. The work also offers several hypotheses to justify the stylistic diversity of the dome mosaics in the Arian Baptistery and clarifies its dating. There is also presented a theory, that could unravel the meaning of re-used building material for the construction of the Arian Baptistery.
