Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou veřejného působení a následného vnímání současné královské rodiny ve Velké Británii. Práce zkoumá dané téma z pohledu sociálně vědních disciplín, jmenovitě historie a dále z pohledu politického, mediálního, sociologického, společenského a ekonomického. Cílem práce je ukázat, jak se působení a vnímání královské rodiny a panovníka posunulo z role, kde panovník vládl z vůle Boží, až po dnešní reprezentativní roli hraničící se statusem celebrity. Práce se zaměřuje zejména na současnou královskou rodinu, avšak pro zasazení aktuálního stavu do kontextu se část práce věnuje historickému vývoji limitace role panovníka a přesunu exekutivní role na parlament, aby bylo dostatečně možné ilustrovat, co vedlo k tomu, že panovník a stejně tak královská rodina, mají v dnešní době víceméně pouze reprezentativní roli hraničící s rolí celebrit. Dále se práce zaměřuje na roli královské rodiny v pozměněném kontextu jejich působení. Vlivem posunu role se královská rodina stala objektem zájmu médií a pro mnohé reprezentuje jistou formu snového ideálu, se kterým je tendence se identifikovat, popřípadě mu věnovat zvýšenou pozornost. Dále je královská rodina vzorem, ať již sociologickým, jakožto rodinná jednotka, stejně tak její členové jsou vzorem společenským, jakožto společenské, módní a kulturní ikony. V neposlední řadě královská rodina funguje jako obchodní značka, jejíž jméno ovlivňuje fungování britského trhu. Východiskem práce je ucelený obraz fungování královské rodiny v kontextu výše zmíněných disciplín, s cílem objasnit současné chápání tohoto fenoménu.

Abstract:

This bachelor diploma thesis deals with the topic of public image and perception of current British Royal Family. The present thesis deals with the topic by using approaches of various socio-cultural disciplines, namely it examines the matter from the point of view of history, politics, media studies, sociology, and from the social and economic perspectives. The intended outcome of the thesis is to present the reader with what the public image and perception of the current British Royal Family is or is supposed to be, and how it happened that the God-appointed monarchs got their role shifted, with the subsequent perception moving more towards celebrities. The main focus of this thesis is the current British Royal Family; however, in order to set the current situation in context, part of the thesis also deals with the historic evolution of the limitations of the monarch’s roles and shift of the executive power to the Parliament. This is to better illustrate what lead to the situation, when the monarch as well as the Royal Family currently have only a representative function, borderlining with being mere celebrities. Due to the shift of the roles, the Royal Family happened to be under the microscope of the media and for many people, they represent a form of a dream ideal which might be considered as an example for others – an example which is worth imitation or identification with as well as close observation. Furthermore, the Royal Family is not only a sociological model for an ideal family unit, but the members are also social, fashion and cultural icons. Last but not least, the Royal Family functions as a brand whose name has the power to influence British market. The outcome of this thesis is a comprehensive image of the roles and functions of the Royal Family in context of the aforementioned disciplines, with an aim to elucidate current perception and understanding of this phenomenon.
