Abstract:

Objev antibiotik v první polovině 20. století odstartoval revoluci ve výzkumu antimikrobiálních látek. Vědci začali více studovat společenstva mikroorganismů a jejich vzájemné interakce, které vedou k produkci látek účinně inhibujících růst mikroorganismů. Tyto látky nacházejí uplatnění v různých oblastech hospodářství, zejména v medicíně, kde mají klíčovou roli při léčbě infekčních onemocněních. Široké praktické využití antibiotik sebou přináší nejen pozitivní stránky, ale i řadu problémů spojených například se vznikem mikrobiálních rezistencí. Vyhledávání nových antibiotických látek je proto nevyhnutelné, ale zároveň je obtížné a zdlouhavé. V tomto procesu jsou užitečné informace o mikrobiálním antagonismu, tedy o vzájemném potlačování životních projevů jednoho mikroorganismu mikroorganismem druhým. Je zřejmé, že tyto interakce si zasluhují nejvyšší pozornost. Tato práce přibližuje mechanismy antagonistického vztahu se zaměřením na produkci antimikrobiálních látek. Je doplněná o praktickou část s laboratorními experimenty, v nichž byly zkoumány projevy antagonismu u bakteriálního izolátu nově získaného z přírody. Hlavním cílem práce je zhodnocení významu mikrobů, zejména bakterií, jako cenného zdroje biologicky aktivních látek, které by mohly být potenciálně využity například při potlačování bakteriálních infekcí rezistentních na již používaná antibiotika.

Abstract:

The discovery of antibiotics in the first half of the 20th century started a revolution in antimicrobial research. Researchers began, more and more, to study the communities of microorganisms and their mutual interactions, which lead to the production of substances that effectively inhibit the growth of microorganisms. These substances are used in various areas of the economy and especially in medicine, where they play a key role in the treatment of infectious diseases in particular. The wide practical use of antibiotics brings not only positive aspects, but also a number of problems, for example those associated with the emergence of microbial resistance. The extensive search for new antibiotic agents is therefore inevitable but also difficult and time-consuming. It actually represents a search for antagonistic organisms and their active products. In this process, information about microbial antagonism, i.e. mutual suppression of the life manifestations of one microorganism by another microorganism, is useful. Clearly, these interactions deserve the utmost attention. This work mentions the mechanisms of the antagonistic relationships between microorganisms with a focus on the production of antimicrobial substances. It is supplemented by a practical part with laboratory experiments in which manifestations of antagonism in a bacterial isolate newly obtained from nature were investigated. The main goal of the work is to evaluate the importance of microbes - especially bacteria - as a valuable source of biologically active substances that could potentially be used, for example, in the suppression of bacterial infections resistant to already known antibiotics.
