Research on small vertebrate fauna in Dagmar cave (Moravian Karst)

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na studium společenstva drobných savců z jeskyně Dagmar. Osteologický materiál byl separován z fosiliferních vrstev 2, 4 a 5 komplexu D a vrstvy 2 komplexu B. Popsány jsou rovněž jednotlivé morfologické znaky významných skupin savců se zvláštním zřetelem k čeledím Arvicolidae a Soricidae. Výstupem práce je determinace zástupců jednotlivých skupin na základě morfologie stoliček m1 v případě hrabošů a determinace na základě morfologie spodní čelisti v případě jiných skupin (Eulipotyphla, Chiroptera). Biostratigrafické zařazení a paleoekologické vyhodnocení taxonů ukázalo, že vrstva 5 komplexu D musela být uložena ve II., III. nebo IV. interglaciálu cromerského komplexu na stanovišti, kde převažovalo lesní prostředí a vegetace. Společenstvo jeskyně Dagmar je dokladem teplého období s poměrně vysokou druhovou diverzitou a vcelku rozmanitou potravní nabídkou ve srovnání s glaciálním prostředím.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on study of communities of small mammals from the Dagmar cave. Osteological material was separated from fossiliferous layers 2, 4 and 5 of complex D and layer 2 of complex B. Different morphological characteristics of significant mammal groups are also described with particular reference to the families Arvicolidae and Soricidae. Outcome of this work is the determination of representatives of various groups on the basis of the morphology of m1 molars in case of voles and determination on the basis of the morphology of the lower jaw in the case of other groups (Eulipotyphla, Chiroptera). Biostratigraphical inclusion and paleoecology based on taxa evaluation showed that the layer 5 of complex D was deposited in II., III. or IV. Interglacial of the Cromerian complex on biotope where forest environment and vegetaion predominated. Dagmar cave community is evidence of the warm period, with a relatively high species diversity and relatively diverse food offer compared to glacial environments.
