Binegativity in relation to need for cognition and sensation seeking

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce jsou negativní postoje k bisexuálním lidem (binegativita), jak je vnímají respondenti v závislosti na vlastní sexuální orientaci a genderu. Cílem práce je prozkoumat binegativitu ve vztahu se sociálním kontaktem s bisexuálními lidmi a v souvislosti s individuálními rozdíly v potřebě poznávání a rysu sensation seeking. Binegativita byla měřena českou verzí škály Biphobia Scale a subškálou stability z Attitudes Regarding Bisexuality Scale. Čeští respondenti byli obecně k bisexuálům poměrně tolerantní, více panovaly stereotypy o nestabilitě bisexuality. Negativní postoje směřovaly hlavně k bisexuálním mužům, ke kterým vykazovali nejvyšší binegativitu heterosexuální muži. Gayové zpochybňovali stabilitu mužské bisexuality. Sociální kontakt na úrovni přátelství se ukázal v negativním vztahu s binegativitou. Potřeba poznávání byla v negativním vztahu s binegativitou pouze u heterosexuálů. Sensation seeking se ukázal v opačném vztahu, než bylo předpokládáno, a to pouze u homosexuálů, kde vyšší hodnoty rysu znamenaly vyšší binegativitu.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor’s thesis is negative attitudes towards bisexuals (binegativity) among participants in relation to their sexual orientation and gender. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between binegativity and social contact with bisexual people, need for cognition and sensation seeking. Binegativity was measured by the Czech version of Biphobia Scale and Stability factor of the Attitudes Regarding Bisexuality Scale. Czech participants were generally relatively tolerant, but there were some stereotypes about stability of bisexuality. Negative attitudes were mostly held towards bisexual men, predominantly by heterosexual men. Gays questioned the stability of male bisexuality. Social contact on the level of friendship was negatively related to binegativity. Need for cognition correlated inversively with binegativity among heterosexuals. Sensation seeking showed results contrary to hypothesis; it was in positive relationship with binegativity among homosexuals.
