Startup Valuation: Case Study of a British Technological Company

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je určit hodnotu britského technologického startupu, pro účely důvěrnosti označovaného jako EngiCraft Dynamics, který se specializuje na globální řešení pro připojení k internetu věcí (IoT). Teoretická část pokládá základy zkoumáním oceňování startupů v rámci existující literatury, definováním startupů a objasněním významu oceňování pro klíčové zainteresované strany. Vymezuje generátory hodnoty, které jsou pro ocenění startupu klíčové, a podrobně zkoumá metody diskontovaného cash-flow (DCF) a analýzy srovnatelných společností (CCA). V závěru této části je zkoumáno takzvané pre-money a post-money ocenění jako stěžejní měřítka. V praktické části se práce zabývá oceněním společnosti EngiCraft Dynamics, nabízí rozsáhlý profil startupu a udává jeho hlavní generátory hodnot prostřednictvím finanční a nefinanční analýzy. S využitím metod DCF a CCA práce vypočítává hodnotu startupu a provádí srovnávací analýzu s jeho post-money oceněním. Výsledky ukazují, že ve srovnání s post-money oceněním startupu poskytuje metoda DCF vyšší ocenění než metoda CCA.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis aims to determine the value of a British technological startup, referred to as EngiCraft Dynamics for confidentiality purposes, specializing in global Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solutions. The theoretical section lays the groundwork by exploring startup valuation within existing literature, defining startups and elucidating the significance of valuation for key stakeholders. It delineates value generators crucial for startup valuation and provides an in-depth examination of the discounted cash flow (DCF) and comparable companies analysis (CCA) methods. The section concludes with an exploration of pre-money and post-money valuation as pivotal benchmarks. In the practical section, the thesis undertakes the valuation of EngiCraft Dynamics, offering an extensive profile of the startup and reports its core value drivers through financial and non-financial analysis. Utilizing the DCF and CCA methods, the thesis calculates the startup's value and conducts a comparative analysis against its post-money valuation. The results show that when compared to the startup's post-money valuation, the DCF method produces a higher valuation than the CCA method.
