Strengthening Energy Security through a Sustainable Energy Future: Analyses on the legislative harmonisation for achieving renewable energy targets and transitioning from fossil fuel supply. Azerbaijan Case Study

Abstract:

This research will briefly inform the reader about the evolution of energy law and security in two separate geographical and geopolitical regions: Europe and Azerbaijan. Despite their differences, these two regions share a fundamental connection, which is centred on the economic sector, specifically in the supply of oil and gas. The primary focus areas of the research include examining the historical progression of legislative and regulatory frameworks in the oil and gas industry in these regions which has been influenced by international political events. In both regions, the main challenge was to regulate the oil and gas field through various international projects, which eventually led them to harmonize the industry into modern tendencies. The academic paper will comprehensively analyse the legal transition from traditional fossil fuel supplies to alternative energy sources in the light of EU Law, considering various legal perspectives and disciplines of law. The research provides extensive and detailed information and puts various legal analyses on the subject. Such analyses will reveal all of the hidden aspects, disadvantages, and benefits of both traditional and modern methods of obtaining energy sources and their legislative governance. Conducting analysis helps to find legal solutions to identified problems and gaps in regulatory frameworks, which would be helpful for legal society to achieve sustainable energy targets and can be used as strong arguments for the further regulation of energy resources and strengthening energy security in both regions.
