Communication of the term terrorism at the OSCE

Abstract:

Vzhledem k nynější dynamice a interdependenci mezinárodního společenství si bezpečnostní hrozby vyžadují mezinárodní dialog na multilaterální úrovni. Jednu z aktuálních bezpečnostních výzev představuje terorismus a s ním dnes často diskutovaná násilná radikalizace a extremismus vedoucí k terorismu. Právě s přihlédnutím ke komplexnosti a interkulturnímu přístupu k tématu se tato práce věnuje agendě Organizace pro bezpečnost a spolupráci v Evropě (OBSE). Nicméně mezinárodní společenství se dodnes neshodlo na společné definici pojmu terorismus, a tudíž je hlavním tématem práce komunikace pojmu a hrozby terorismu jak uvnitř organizace, tak navenek se širokou veřejností. Autorka analyzuje komunikaci v jednotlivých časových periodách, například v souvislosti se vznikem Islámského státu. Cílem této bakalářské práce je potom vyhodnocení analýzy konkrétních oblastí komunikace hrozeb v rámci agendy OBSE v boji proti terorismu.

Abstract:

Given the current dynamics and interdependence of the international community, security threats require international dialogue at the multilateral level. Terrorism represents one of the current security challenges which is nowadays very often discussed in the context of violent radicalization and extremism leading to terrorism. Because of the complexity and intercultural approach to this subject, this thesis is devoted to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and its counter terrorism agenda. International community has still not agreed on a common definition of terrorism. Therefore, this thesis emphisizes the importance of communication of the threat of terrorism and it reflects the communication within the organization as well as with civil society. The author analyzes the communication of this threat in particular periods of time, for example regarding the rice of the Islamic state. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the analysis based on the specific areas of recommendations for effective communication of threats and find out whether OSCE adresses those areas within its agenda.
