The influence of social media consumption on pathological eating behavior

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se věnuje vztahu mezi konzumací sociálních médií, konkrétně platforem Facebook a Instagram, a patologickým jídelním chováním. Teoretická část práce pojednává o sociálních médiích a jejich roli v každodenním životě se zaměřením na tzv. fitspiration obsah, tedy obsah týkající se stravování a cvičení. Dále se zabývá zdravým životním stylem, jeho prezentací na sociálních médiích, a patologickým jídelním chováním. Cílem empirické části práce bylo prokázat vztah mezi konzumací sociálních médií a přítomností patologického jídelního chování. Respondenti (N=90) byli v online formě požádání o vyplnění dotazníku složeného z dotazníku EAT-40 a otázek týkajících se konzumace sociálních médií a fitspiration obsahu. Podařilo se prokázat vztah mezi konzumací fitspiration obsahu a vyšším skóre získaným v dotazníku EAT-40, které indikuje přítomnost patologického jídelního chování. Vztah mezi časem stráveným používáním sociálních médií a skórem získaným v dotazníku EAT-40 nebyl prokázán.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis addresses to the topic of the relationship between social media consumption, especially the Facebook and Instagram platforms, and pathological eating behaviour. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with social media and their role in everyday life, focusing on so-called fitspiration content, i.e. content related to nutrition and exercise. It then also deals with healthy lifestyle, its presentation in social media and pathological eating behaviour. The aim of the empirical part of the thesis was to demonstrate the relationship between the consumption of social media and the presence of pathological eating behavior. Respondents (N=90) were asked in online form to fill out a questionnaire consisting of the EAT-40 questionnaire and questions regarding social media consumption and fitspiration content. It was managed to prove a relationship between the consumption of fitspiration content and a higher score obtained in the EAT-40 questionnaire, which indicates the presence of pathological eating behavior. A relationship between time spent using social networks and the score obtained on the EAT-40 questionnaire has not been proven.
