Analysis of the foreign exchange interventions on the case of the Russian Federation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje především na analýzu devizových intervencí centrální banky Ruské federace. Nejprve jsou charakterizovány devizové intervence, jejich cíle, motivy a účinky. Následně jsou popsány sterilizované a nesterilizované devizové intervence. Druhá část práce je věnována devizovým intervencím v režimech pevného kurzu a řízeného floatingu. Dále jsou diskutovány hlavní rozdíly mezi těmito režimy. Práce se dále zabývá analyzováním devizových intervencí centrální banky Ruska. V rámci této analýzy je nejprve popsána historie vývoje režimů měnového kurzu rublu a dále jsou nastíněny dopady krize v období 2008-2009 na měnové ukazatele. Následně je rozebrán vývoj měnového kurzu během posledních let. Podrobná analýza devizových intervencí a jejich dopadů na hlavní měnové ukazatele práci uzavírá.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis mainly aims to analyze foreign exchange interventions of the Bank of Russia. Firstly, it describes foreign exchange interventions, their objectives, motives and effects. Then sterilized and nonsterilized foreign interventions are discussed. The second part describes foreign interventions in a fixed exchange rate regime and a managed float regime. There are also discussed the main differences between these two regimes. The third part of the thesis analyzes foreign interventions of the Bank of Russia. Firstly, it covers the history of the ruble exchange rate regimes in Russia and then it describes the impact of the crisis of 2008-2009 on monetary indicators. After that the thesis outlines the evolution of the ruble exchange rate during the last three years. A detailed analysis of foreign interventions and their impact on the main monetary indicators closes this paper.
