The Process of cultural adaptation of Nepalese to the Czech culture

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje procesu adaptace Nepálců na české kulturní prostředí. Zkoumá zejména, jak jsou Nepálci schopni se přizpůsobit životu v české společnosti a jaké změny tento proces vyvolává v jejich každodenním životě. Teoretická část se zabývá základními pojmy, jež úzce souvisí s adaptací, jako je kultura, socializace, enkulturace a akulturace. Dále následuje téma samotné adaptace, její teorie a s ní související kulturní šok. Na závěr teoretické části je stručně popsán výzkum G. Hofstedeho, který slouží ke srovnání národních kultur. Konkrétně jsou porovnány hodnoty české a nepálské kultury. Interpretace výsledků rozhovorového šetření, kterého se zúčastnilo deset nepálských imigrantů žijících v České republice, jsou uvedeny v praktické části bakalářské práce. V neposlední řadě výsledky také ukázaly, jak nepálští účastníci výzkumu vnímají a reagují na české kulturní prostředí a jeho obyvatelstvo. Z výzkumu vyplývá, že se jeho participanti dovedou úspěšně adaptovat na českou kulturu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the process of adaptation of Nepalese to the Czech cultural environment. In particular, it examines how Nepalese are able to adapt to the life in the Czech society and what changes this process causes in their daily lives. The theoretical part concerns with basic terms that are closely related to adaptation such as culture, socialization, enculturation and acculturation. It is followed by the theme of adaptation itself, its theory and its cultural shock. Research of G. Hofstede is briefly described at the end of the theoretical part, which is used for comparison of national cultures. Specifically, the values of Czech and Nepalese culture are compared. Interpretation of the interview results, which was attended by ten Nepalese immigrants living in the Czech Republic, are presented in the practical part of the thesis. Last but not least, the results also showed how Nepalese participants perceive and respond to the Czech cultural environment and its population. The research shows that its participants can successfully adapt to Czech culture.
