Theories of humour in sculpture with regard to the work of Kurt Gebauer

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Teorie humoru v sochařství se stálým zřetelem k dílu Kurta Gebauera“ pojednává o problematice definování humoru a jeho aplikaci na sochu. Zkoumá osobitě zařazení humoru mezi základní typy komična – naivitu, ironii a absurditu. Podrobněji rozebírá jednotlivé filozofické, psychologické i sociologické teorie humoru, které převažovaly v jeho zkoumání v 19.–20. století. Do práce budou zahrnuty teorie Siegmunda Freuda, Sørena Kierkegaarda, Luigiho Pirandella či Gillesa Lipovetského, aby poukazovaly na tři zásadní teorie humoru – teorii inkongruence, superiority a relaxace. Dále se práce pokusí naznačit stručnou historii humoru v sochařské praxi. Práce zahrnuje rovněž aplikaci teorií humoru na sochu, a to konkrétně na vybraná sochařská díla českého umělce Kurta Gebauera.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis „Theories of humour in sculpture with regard to the work of Kurt Gebauer“ deals with the problem of defining humour and its application to the sculpture. It individually investigates categorization of humour to elementary types of comic – naiveness, irony and absurdity. In detail, it analyses particular philosophical, psychological and sociological theories of humour which predominated from 19th to 20th century. The work will include theories of Siegmund Freud, Søren Kierkegaard, Luigi Pirandello or Gilles Lipovetsky to refer to three principal theories of humour – Theory of Incongruity, Superiority and Release Theory. Also it will attempt to outline brief history of humour in the art of sculpture practice. Thesis includes application of mentioned theories to selected works of art of Czech artist Kurt Gebauer.
