Privacy protection on social networks

Abstract:

V této práci se autor zabývá problematikou ochrany soukromí na internetu, konkrétně na sociálních sítích. Cílem práce je navrhnout pro uživatele sadu účinných ochranných opatření, která by minimalizovala riziko narušení soukromí na sociálních sítích. Vymezen je tak pojem sociální síť, soukromí na těchto službách a hrozby, které ho narušují. Na základě analýzy popsaných hrozeb autor identifikoval opakující se vzorce uživatelského chování, které mohou zvyšovat riziko narušení soukromí. Pro tyto rizikové faktory navrhl sadu 7 konkrétních opatření, která by měla riziko výskytu narušení soukromí minimalizovat. Pokud to umožňovala povaha opatření, návrh opatření je doplněn i o aplikaci daného opatření ve službě Facebook. K ověření účinnosti navrhovaných opatření použil autor testování statistické významnosti hypotéz. Cílem testování bylo vyvrátit nulovou hypotézu o nezměněné četnosti výskytů narušení soukromí při používání daného opatření, a naopak přijetí alternativní hypotézy tvrdící, že četnost byla snížena. Data pro uskutečnění této statistické metody pocházejí z autorem provedeného online dotazníkového šetření, kterého se zúčastnilo 221 respondentů. Výsledky ukázaly, že všechna navrhovaná opatření účinně minimalizují výskyt narušení soukromí na sociálních sítích. Výstupem této práce je tak sada 7 ochranných opatření, která může uživateli posloužit jako best practice postupy pro ochranu jeho soukromí na sociálních sítích.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis author deals with a problematics of privacy protection on the Internet specifically on the social networking sites (SNS). The goal of the thesis is to design verified set of safeguards for users which should minimalize a risk of privacy breaches. The theoretical part defines the term social network, the privacy and its threats in context of these services. Based on analysis of mentioned above, the author had identified repetitive patterns in user’s behaviour which can increase the risk of privacy breach. The risk should be minimalized with 7 steps suggested by the author. If it was possible description of safeguards was attached with instruction how to use them on Facebook. Efficiency of these safeguards was verified by hypothesis testing with π parameter of Bernoulli distribution. The purpose of testing was to reject null hypothesis which assumes that there is no meaningful relationship between using of safeguards and frequency of occurrence of privacy breaches and on the other hand to approve alternative hypothesis which assumes frequency decreasing. Data for the testing was collected by online questionnaire research which was conducted by 221 people. Results shows that all the designed safeguards minimalize the frequency of privacy breaches on SNS. The output of this thesis is the set of 7 safeguards which efficiency was statistically verified and users of SNS can use them as a best practice.
