"Singles" in Socialogical Theory

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci jsem se zabýval fenoménem singlovství. Konkrétně jsem se zaměřil na skupinu mladých lidí bez partnera ve věku 18-35 let. Nejprve jsem popsal a definoval koho současné sociologické teorie jako singla rozumí. Tyto poznatky jsem doplnil o popis rozmanitosti lidí spadajících do této skupiny. V práci jsem se především snažil nalézt příčiny nárůstu počtu singlů v populaci západní společnosti ve vymezeném věku. K tomu jsem využil porovnání sociologických teorií, jež identifikují různé změny ve společnosti, které ovlivňují nárůst jedinců žijících bez partnera. Faktorů zvyšujících počet těchto lidí je skutečně mnoho. Proto jsem je roztřídil do tří logicky uspořádaných skupin, přičemž se v každé nachází faktory mající stejný základ. Po dokončení své práce mohu konstatovat, že vzhledem k velkému množství faktorů ovlivňujících nárůst singlů v populaci by připisování hlavní role jen jednomu z nich bylo chybou, protože většina faktorů se vzájemně ovlivňuje a prolíná. V závěru práce jsem nastínil další možný faktor, který není součástí hlavních sociologických proudů, avšak také by mohl mít vliv na nárůst singlů v populaci západní společnosti.

Abstract:

My bachelor’s thesis was dedicated to the phenomenon of singles. My work was focused especially on the rising number of young singles, which had been for the purposes of this paper defined as 18-35 years old. First I defined who is perceived as a single in contemporary sociological theories. According to these findings I described how heterogenous this group of people is. The main goal of my work was to find out, what are the main factors affecting the rising number of singles among selected age group in the population of western society. To reach my goal I compared various sociological theories identifying the factors responsible for the rising number of singles. Sociological scientists have identified and described various factors which have something to do with the number of singles. That is why I have categorized all the factors into three groups. Each group consists of elements with similar properties. After I finished my research, I concluded that according to the large number of factors it is impossible to entitle only one of them as a main reason of the rising number of singles, because most of the factors are linked to each other and are interconnected. At the end of my paper, I have outlined a factor which is not a part of main sociological theories, but yet it might affect the rising number of singles.
