Depression treatment options for adults

Abstract:

Deprese patří mezi časté, komplexní a závažné duševní poruchy, jež mají negativní vliv na tělesné i duševní zdraví, well-being a každodenní život těch, kteří jimi trpí. Mohou však být léčeny. Cílem této bakalářské práce je proto shrnout veškeré dosavadní relevantní poznatky o způsobech léčby depresí u dospělých včetně současných a vynořujících se trendů v léčbě tohoto onemocnění. První část předkládané bakalářské práce, jež je koncipována jako výhradně teoretická, se zaměřuje na vytvoření teoretického rámce, koncepčního základu pro úvod do daného výzkumného tématu. Tato sekce je věnována etiologii a patogenezi depresí, klinickým projevům, epidemiologii, diagnostice depresivních poruch i možnostem prevence. Obsahem druhé části práce je vytvoření přehledu klasických, alternativních a nových způsobů léčby depresivních poruch u dospělých. Pro dané účely přehledové studie byla použita metoda literárního přehledu. Byly identifikovány v současné době dostupné a efektivní strategie v léčbě depresí. Zmíněný přehled současných vědeckých poznatků je doplněn o poznatky nejnovějších výzkumů zaměřených na studium depresí a duševního zdraví, jakými jsou například studie dopadu klimatické krize či koronavirové pandemie na duševní zdraví, za účelem poskytnutí komplexního, detailního a moderního vhledu do této problematiky.

Abstract:

Depression is a common, complex and severe mental disorder which negatively affects the physical and mental health, the well-being and the daily life of those who suffer from it. Nevertheless, it can be treated. Thus, the aim of this thesis is to summarize the current relevant knowledge of depression treatment options for adults including recent and emerging trends in the treatment of this medical condition. The first part of this thesis, which is solely theoretical in nature, focuses on developing a theoretical framework, a conceptual basis for introducing this research topic. This section is devoted to the aetiology and pathogenesis of depression, its clinical manifestations, the epidemiology, the diagnostics of depressive disorders as well as depression-prevention strategies. The second part of the thesis contains the overview of traditional, alternative and new treatment options for depressive disorders for adults. Literature review method was used for the given purpose of the review study. The currently available and effective strategies in the treatment of depression have been identified. This state-of-the-science review is complemented with the latest research findings on depression and mental health, such as the impact of climate change or the coronavirus pandemic on mental health, in order to provide a complex, more detailed and modern insight into this issue.
