Opportunities and threats of group testing of social-emotional competence in early school-age children

Abstract:

Cílem této studie bylo ověřit, do jaké míry je možné srovnávat výsledky získané individuální administrací socioemočních subtestů Inteligenční a vývojové škály pro děti ve věku 5-10 let s hromadnou adaptací týchž subtestů. Na vzorku 72 dětí byla měřena úroveň sociálně-emočních dovedností oběma formami testování. S polovinou vzorku bylo v první fázi realizováno individuální testování a o čtyři týdny později hromadné testování v rámci celých tříd. S druhou polovinou vzorku bylo pracováno opačným postupem – nejprve pro-běhlo hromadné měření a následně individuální. Na základě srovnání výsledků jednotlivých testování bylo zjištěno, že v rámci některých subtestů je rozdíl mezi dvěma formami testování zanedbatelný, a to konkrétně u prvního a druhého subtestu Rozpoznávání emocí a Regulace emocí. Naopak u třetího a čtvrtého subtestu, Poro-zumění sociálním situacím a Sociálně-kompetentní jednání, byl nalezen statisticky signifikantní rozdíl. V rámci výzkumu byla odhalena řada intervenujících proměnnných, které vstupují do podmínek hromadného testo-vání těchto socioemočních subtestů, patří zde například třídní klima, délka samotného testování a spolu s ní přirozeně snižující se motivace dětí aktivně setrvat v procesu testování.

Abstract:

The aim of this research to test to what extent it is possible to compare results of individual and adapted group testing of social-emotional competence via socioemocional subtests of Intelligence and developmental scale for children in years 5-10. The level of social-emotional was measured in these two conditions on sample of 72 children. Half of the sample was first tested individually and four weeks later the group testing was administered. The second half of the sample was treated in the opposite way – first the group testing was carried out, followed by the individual testing after four weeks. Based on comparing the results of each type of testing, there were only negligible differences between certain subtests, specifically first and second subtest Recognizing emotions and Emotion regulation. On the contrary, the third and forth subtest, Understanding social situations and Socially competent behavior, showed a significant difference. Number of confounding variables in case of group testing were found and taken into account while interpreting the results. Among other things, the length of test, decreasing motivation of children to remain active in the process of testing and the class climate intervene in the research.
