Gender inequality in the labour market in the Pardubice Region between 2000—2022

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je genderová nerovnost na trhu práce a následná analýza vývoje dané problematiky v Pardubickém kraji. Teoretická část práce rozebírá jak trh práce se svými specifiky, tak rovnost a diskriminaci žen nejen v České republice. Na feministické a neoklasické teorii jsou demonstrovány důvody vzniku odlišného nahlížení na muže a ženy a teorie preferencí ukazuje, s jakými typy žen se lze na trhu práce setkat. V praktické části je analyzován Pardubický kraj pomocí makroekonomických ukazatelů jako je např. zaměstnanost, ekonomická aktivita či mzdové charakteristiky. Je doplněna o charakteristiku zkoumané oblasti a její snahy o zlepšení pozice žen na daném území. Praktická část dospěla k závěru, že jak Pardubický kraj, tak celá Česká republika se stále potýkají s vážnou genderovou nerovností. Podpora jejich odstranění je však účinná a zaměstnanost, ekonomická aktivita i mzdové rozdíly mají pozitivní tendenci. Dílčím přínosem je i pohled na dopad pandemie Covid-19 na trh práce v Pardubickém kraji, který zpomalil příznivý vývoj.

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor thesis is gender inequality in the labour market and subsequent analysis of the development of the issue in the Pardubice Region. The theoretical part of the thesis analyses the labour market with its specifics, as well as the equality and discrimination of women not only in the Czech Republic. Feminist and neoclassical theories are used to demonstrate the reasons for the different perceptions of men and women, and preference theory shows what types of women can be encountered on the labour market. In the practical part, the Pardubice Region is analysed using macroeconomic indicators such as employment, economic activity, or wage characteristics. It is supplemented by the characteristics of the researched area and its efforts to improve the position of women in the territory. The practical part concludes that both the Pardubice region and the entire Czech Republic still face serious gender inequality. However, support for their removal is effective and employment, economic activity and wage differences have a positive tendency. A partial contribution is an insight into the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the labour market in the Pardubice Region, which has slowed down the favourable development.
