Self-presentation of women looking for women on contact websites

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl prozkoumat sebe-prezentaci žen hledajících ženy na internetových seznamkách. V teoretické části je vymezen pojem sebe-prezentace a specifika internetové komunikace. Blíže jsou specifikovány internetové seznamky a tvorba profilu. Dále je zacíleno na význam internetu pro homosexuální menšinu s důrazem na dřívější výzkumy seznamovacích inzerátů a sebe-prezentaci žen orientovaných na ženy. Praktická část zkoumá vzorek dvou set inzerátů žen hledajících ženy na české internetové seznamce v kategorii „vážná seznámení - lesbička hledá ji“. Jsou zkoumány oblasti, které ženy při psaní inzerátů zvýznamňují a jak prezentují své zaměření na ženy. Neprokázala se některá zjištění zahraničních výzkumů hlavně z hlediska četnosti uvádění fyzických charakteristik a genderu inzerentek. Bylo zjištěno, že ženy svou sexualitu specifikují spíše požadavky na partnerku než přímou prezentací své orientace. Zkoumané kategorie byly posuzovány také podle věku, ovšem s výjimkou zveřejňování fotografie nemá věk významnou souvislost u uváděním jednotlivých kategorií.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis is to examine self presentation of women searching for women on the internet contact websites. In theoretical part, the concept of self presentation and specifics of online communication are defined. Closely specified are internet contact websites and profile creation. Further is targeted on the importance of internet for homosexuals with the emphasis on previous studies of contact advertisements and of self-presentation of women oriented on women. Practical part examines a sample of two hundred ads of women searching for women on the Czech dating site in category “serious relationship – she looks for her”. Categories of characteristics that are important for women while writing the advertisement and the way how they publish their desire for women are examined. The results of few foreign studies with the same subject were not confirmed by our study. Main differences were observed at publishing gender and physical characteristics. The study shows that women are more likely to present the desired partner gender sexuality than their own gender sexuality. The categories were also observed by age, but no significant impact of age was demonstrated with the exception of photography publishing.
