Guided Biofilm Therapy as a prophylactic procedure in the work of a dental hygienist

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na nový profylaktický postup v práci dentální hygienistky zvaný Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). Metody ošetření a používané přístroje se neustále vyvíjí, modernizují a zdokonalují a čím dál více se zaměřují na šetrnost a komfort pacienta, zároveň však i na co nejvyšší efektivnost. GBT je jedním z nejnovějších postupů ošetření, který klade důraz obzvláště na šetrnost, komfort a moderní pojetí profylaxe. Vnímání potřeby se celoživotně vzdělávat a vyhledávat nové informace k zajištění bezpečné práce a kvalitního ošetření je v dentální hygieně nezbytné, proto by alespoň teoreticky měla GBT postup znát každá hygienistka, včetně indikací a případných kontraindikací. Cílem teoretické části je podrobně rozpracovat postup GBT, spo-lečně s doplněním informací o zubním plaku i všech potřebných po-můckách a přístrojích. Dále také přiblížení tohoto postupu studentům i již pracujícím hygienistkám, které se s GBT ještě blíže nesetkaly. Praktická část pomocí dotazníkového šetření rozebírá, zda hygie-nistky tento postup znají a aktivně využívají, jestli, případně jaký, má pro jejich praxi přínos oproti běžným metodám ošetření, jaké konkrétní přístroje používají a zda jsou s GBT spokojeny, nebo se raději vrací k starším postupům.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on a new prophylactic procedure in the work of a dental hygienist called Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). The treatment methods and devices are constantly being developed, modernized and refined, increasingly focusing on patient care and comfort, while also maximizing the efficiency. GBT is one of the newest treatments, emphasizing especially the gentleness, comfort and modern concept of prophylaxis. The perception of lifelong learning and seeking new informations to ensure safe work and quality treatment is essential in dental hygiene; therefore, at least theoretically, every hygienist should know the GBT procedure. Also, knowledge of indications and contraindications of this method is required. The aim of the theoretical part is to elaborate in detail the GBT procedure including informations about dental plaque and all the necessary equipment and devices. Furthermore, to approach this procedure to students and also already working hygienists who have not encountered the GBT yet. The practical part of this thesis examines by using questionnaire whether the hygienists know and actively use this procedure, if there are any benefits for their practice compared to conventional methods of treatment, which devices they use and whether they are satisfied with GBT, or prefer to return to older methods.
