The Impact of Eurozone Membership on International Trade of EU Member States

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce „Vliv členství v eurozóně na zahraniční obchod zemí EU“ je zkoumat vývoj zahraničního obchodu eurozóny před rokem 1999 a po přijetí společné měny, najít další faktory přispívající k vývoji zahraničního obchodu ve sledovaném období, zjistit, zda se komoditní a teritoriální struktura obchodu vyvíjí v souladu s teoretickými koncepcemi a odhadnout dopady eura na zahraniční obchod nových a budoucích členů eurozóny. První kapitola se věnuje popisu determinantů vývoje zahraničního obchodu a vybraných teoretických přístupů k dopadu ekonomické integrace na obchod. Druhá kapitola srovnává výsledky studií o přínosech měnové unie pro zahraniční obchod. Ve třetí a čtvrté kapitole je analyzován vývoj zahraničního obchodu eurozóny s důrazem na hledání možných příčin tohoto vývoje a ověření platnosti hypotéz uvedených v první kapitole. Nakonec jsou zjištěné výsledky aplikovány na nové a budoucí členy eurozóny.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis „The Impact of Eurozone Membership on International Trade of EU Member States“ is to investigate the development of Eurozone international trade before the year 1999 and after the adoption of the single currency, to find further elements contributing to the foreign trade development in the pursued period, to examine whether the commodity and territorial trade structure is moving in the way predicted by economic theory and to estimate the impacts of the euro on foreign trade of new and future Eurozone members. The first chapter describes the determinants of international trade development and some chosen theoretical approaches to the impact of economic integration on trade. The second chapter compares the results of monetary union studies concerning its benefits to international trade. The third and fourth chapters analyse the Eurozone international trade development with the emphasis on its possible causes and the verifications of the hypotheses mentioned in the first chapter. The results are finally applied to new and future Eurozone members.
