Birth order and its connection with participation in delinquent behavior and willingness to take risks

Abstract:

První cíl této práce je zjistit vliv pořadí narození či jinými slovy vliv pozice v sourozenecké konstelaci na pravděpodobnost účasti v delikventním chování a ochotu riskovat. V úvodní části práce jsou uvedeny informace, ze kterých byly vyvozeny mé hypotézy. Mojí první hypotézou bylo, že prvorození se delikventního chování účastní s menší pravděpodobností než později narození sourozenci. Mojí druhou hypotézou bylo, že prvorození jsou méně ochotní riskovat než později narození sourozenci. Druhý cíl této práce vyplývá z faktu, že jen velmi málo autorů se zajímalo o vlivy pořadí narození. Tato práce přináší poměrně obsáhlý přehled zjištění z výzkumů jiných autorů, kteří se zabývali vlivem pořadí narození na nejrůznější témata. K zjištění platnosti mých hypotéz byla analyzována data z projektu SAHA, nasbíraná v České republice. Hypotézy byly ověřeny za použití Kruskal-Wallisova testu. Data byla nasbírána od respondentů, kteří byli vybráni tak, aby dobře reprezentovali adolescentní populaci v České republice. Třídy byly vybrány dvoustupňovým výběrem. Nejdříve byly vybrané školy stratifikovaným pravděpodobnostním výběrem. Poté byly vybrané třídy metodou pravděpodobnostního výběru. První hypotézu jsem testoval proměnnými: Pití alkoholu, užívání drog, kouření cigaret a proměnnou problémové chování. Druhou hypotézu jsem testoval proměnnou percepce vnímání rizika. Má druhá hypotéza byla vyvrácena. První hypotéza byla potvrzena jen u proměnné kouření cigaret a u chlapců také u proměnné pití alkoholu. V diskusní části mé práce uvažuji o možných příčinách nepotvrzení mých hypotéz u některých proměnných. Jednou z příčin může být rozdílná metodologie u výzkumů, zkoumajících proměnnou alkohol. Další příčinou může být jiný čas a prostor sběru dat k mé studii a prací, ze kterých jsem vycházel. Další příčinou může být dle mého názoru naštěstí již méně autoritativní výchova v dnešní době.

Abstract:

The first goal of this bachelor thesis is to discover the influence of birth order or in other words the influence of position in the sibling constellation on the probability of participation in deliquent behaviour and willingness to take risks. The introductory part of the thesis contains information from which my hypotheses were derived. My first hypothesis was that first borns were less likely to participate in deliquent behavior than later borns. My second hypothesis was that first borns were less willing to take risks than later borns. The second goal of this bachelor thesis stems from the fact that very few authors were interested in the effects of birth order. This bachelor thesis provides a relatively comprehensive overview of findings from researches by other authors who have dealt with the influence of birth order on various topics. To find out the validity of my hypotheses, data from the SAHA project, collected in the Czech republic, were analyzed. The hypotheses were verified using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Data were collected from respondents who were selected to represent well the adolescent population in the Czech republic. Classes were selected by two-stage selection. Firstly schools were selected by stratified probabilistic selection. Then, the classes were sellected by probabilistic selection. The first hypothesis I tested with the variables: Alcohol consumption, drug abuse, cigarette smoking and the problem behavior variable. The second hypothesis I tested with the variable perception of risk perception. My second hypothesis was refuted. My first hypothesis was confirmed only for the cigarette smoking variable and also for the alcohol drinking variable in boys. One reason may be the different methodology in research examining the variable alcohol. Another reason may be the different time and space of data collection for my study and creating works and studies I have derived my hypotheses from. Another reason mys be less authoritative upbringing which is in my opinion nowadays fortunatelly at least a little bit less authoritative.
