Effect of high-risk pregnancy on woman’s pregnancy perception

Abstract:

In this master thesis we have tried to describe how a pregnant woman perceives her pregnancy, influenced by stressful situations. We have focused not only on the factors that come from the health conditions, but also on those with a psychological influence. We assume that both will have immediate effect on the psychological comfort of the pregnant woman. In the thesis we bring a description of the theoretical concept of pregnancy perception. We describe the ordinary course of the pregnancy, psychological approach in the pregnancy and at last specific situations during high-risk pregnancy. In the empirical part of the thesis we predict some of the major factors that influence the level of anxiety and depressiveness during pregnancy and shortly after the delivery. Our premises were tested on the data collected by the ELSPAC Study in the Czech republic during the years 1991-1992, containing 7583 responding women. We have found that the level of anxiety and depressiveness is significantly influenced by the amount of social support, partner’s reactions about the pregnancy, attitude of the woman towards pregnancy and others. Results show significantly higher levels of anxiety and depressiveness in women hospitalized during pregnancy, those without a partner, those with no social support and also those whose pregnancy was not intended. Presented results are discussed within the theoretical concept as well as the limitations of the research.

Abstract:

V tejto práci sme sa snažili popísať situácie vplývajúce na prežívanie tehotenstva. Našim zámerom boli hlavne okolnosti rizikového tehotenstva. Nemali sme však na mysli len faktory zdravotné, ale aj také, ktoré pôsobia skôr psychologickým vplyvom. Predpokladáme, že tieto budú výrazne ovplyvňovať psychickú pohodu tehotnej. Na úvod sme zadefinovali výskumný problém, pojmy, ktoré budeme v práci používať a stručnú históriu vývoja poznatkov týkajúcich sa tehotenstva a prístupu k tehotnej. Následne sme sa venovali problematike fyziologického tehotenstva. Načrtli sme systém preventívnych prehliadok ako i odporúčania k nekomplikovanému priebehu tehotenstva. V ďalšej kapitole sme sa venovali psychológii tehotenstva, v ktorej sme popísali jej základné pojmy a uviedli sme i názory psychologických škôl v tejto súvislosti. Načrtli sme fázy vývoja psychiky tehotnej a uviedli niektoré psychologické aspekty diagnostických metód prenatálnej diagnostiky. Následne sme sa venovali tehotenstvu rizikovému, jeho definícii a popisu jednotlivých rizikových faktorov. Uviedli sme niektoré špecifické situácie psychológie rizikového tehotenstva. V praktickej časti sme sa venovali metodike výskumu nášho problému, určili sme si hypotézy i metódy ich overovania a analyzovali vzťahy, ktoré sa nám podarilo získať. V diskusii sme tieto vzťahy zhodnotili s ohľadom na teoretické predpoklady a uviedli sme i možné nedostatky nášho výskumu. Hypotézy sme overovali na údajoch získaných v rámci štúdie ELSPAC. Podarilo sa nám preukázať významné vzťahy v prežívaní úzkosti a depresivity u tehotnej v závislosti na premenných sociálna podpora, reakcia na tehotenstvo zo strany partnera, postoj tehotnej k tehotenstvu, či vplyv hospitalizácie počas tehotenstva na toto prežívanie.
