Prediction of the development of prices of selected stocks

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce na základě studia nástrojů technické analýzy srovnává možnosti jejího použití na akciových titulech a v různých situacích. Snahou bylo pokrýt různorodou škálu titulů s odlišným chováním i periodicitou. Práce analyticky zkoumá chování indikátorů na více než 3 000 časových řadách akciových i jiných titulů, obchodovaných na burzách NYSE a NASDAQ. Pomocí deskriptivní statistiky analyzuje úspěšnosti předpovědí, poskytované různými metodami a jejich kombinacemi. Srovnává jak chování sobě si odpovídajících období v průběhu sledovaných dvou let, tak chování v závislosti na vybrané skupině titulů. Ukazuje, že úspěšnost metod je ovlivněna mnoha faktory, nejen mírou rizika, jakou je investor ochotný nést. Na uvedených datech dokládá, že je nejen možné, ale také nezbytné, aby investor kombinoval více než jednu metodu. Stejně tak se investor nemůže spolehnout na to, že mu stejný přístup, jako v minulých obdobích zaručí srovnatelný výsledek.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis compares possibilities of price prediction of chosen stocks given by different means of technical analysis. It tries to cover wide scale of different stocks with different behaviour and in different situations. The work analytically examines the behaviour of indicators on more than 3,000 time series of stocks traded on the NYSE and NASDAQ. Using descriptive statistics, it analyzes the success of predictions provided by different methods and their combinations. It also compares both the behavior in the corresponding periods during the observed two years and the behavior depending on the selected group of titles. It shows that the success of methods is considerably influenced by many factors, not just the degree of risk that the investor is willing to bear. The data show that it is not only possible but also necessary for the investor to combine more than one method. It also proves that the investor cannot rely on the same approach as in previous periods to guarantee him a comparable result.
