Suicidal Tendencies in the Life and Art of Sylvia Plath

Abstract:

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze Sylvia Plath?s written work and find any suicidal tendencies in them. The initial portion of this thesis deals with the author?s complicated life, describing it from three points of view - her family, her studies and her relationships with men. Later, her written work is introduced. The second part of this paper explains the term suicide and three pieces of her work are analyzed in terms of suicidal tendencies - The Bell Jar, The Collected Poems and The Journals of Sylvia Plath.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat díla Sylvie Plathové a najít v nich sebevražedné tendence. V úvodu této práce se rozebírá autorčin komplikovaný život. Její život je popsán ze tří úhlů pohledu - její rodina, studia a vztahy s muži. Později jsou v této práci stručně představena všechna díla autorky. Ve druhé části této práce je vysvětlen pojem sebevražda a jsou rozebrány tři hlavní díla autorky - Pod skleněným zvonem, Sebrané básně a Deníky Sylvie Plathové z pohledu sebevražedných tendencí.
