Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje jak a do jaké míry specifické faktory jako imperialismus, nacionalismus a pseudovědecké pojetí rasy ovlivnily vývoj rasismu ve Velké Británii ve 20. století. Dále se práce zabývá zacházením s nebělošskými lidmi během válečného období v Británii a jak to ovlivnilo poválečné rasové vztahy v Británii a koloniích. Práce se pak zaměřuje na proměnu rasismu ve druhé polovině 20. století, zejména na posun od převážně biologických koncepcí k systematičtějším, celospolečenským názorům, které způsobily nepodložené předsudky vůči nebílým Britům a současně zapříčinily radikálnější formu protestů proti rasismu.

Abstract:

This thesis analyses how and to what extent specific factors such as imperialism, nationalism and pseudo-scientific conceptions of race impacted the development of racism in Great Britain in the 20th century. Furthermore, the thesis looks at the treatment of non-white people during the wartime period in Britain, and how this affected post-war racial relations in Britain and the colonies. The thesis then focuses on the transformation of racism in the second half of the 20th century, particularly the shift from largely biological conceptions to more systemic, societal views that caused unsubstantiated prejudice toward non-white Britons and simultaneously triggered a more radical form of anti-racism protest.
