Adaptation strategies in footwear industry

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá dopady transformačních procesů v České republice. Zkoumá je na konkrétním příkladu obuvnického průmyslu. Jejím cílem je zodpovědět výzkumnou otázku „Jak se český obuvnický průmysl vypořádal s ekonomickou transformací po roce 1989 zejména s ohledem na sociální důsledky, jenž jsou spojeny s ekonomickou úspěšností podniků v tomto průmyslovém oboru?“ Po krátkém teoretickém nástinu problematiky transformace, jejích dopadů týkajících se adaptačních strategií a zhodnocení celkového vývoje obuvnického průmyslu během posledních 20 let, jsou v textu identifikovány a rozpracovány faktory, které měly potenciál ovlivnit efekty transformačních procesů na český obuvnický průmysl. Zároveň jsou naznačeny i strategie, které obuvníci zvolili při vyrovnávání se s nově se utvářející podmínkami. Rozpracování těchto faktorů bylo využito jako odrazový můstek pro empirickou část práce, kde jsou zvolené strategie následně zkoumány u dvou konkrétních podniků. Jsou jimi Svit a. s. Zlín a Prabos a. s. Slavičín, a je tím podáno vysvětlení role faktorů v případech úspěšné a neúspěšné adaptace obou firem. V diplomové práci jsou rovněž zkoumány dopady vývoje obuvnického průmyslu do sociální oblasti. Za výchozí je považován průběh transformace ve vybraných sociálních oblastech u obou již zmiňovaných společností, ale situace je srovnávána i s podmínkami v celé republice.

Abstract:

The Diploma Thesis deals with the effects of transformation processes in the Czech Republic. It examines them on practical example of footwear industry. Its goal is to answer the question “How did the Czech footwear industry deal with the economic transformation after 1989 especially with a view to social impacts which have been connected with economic effectiveness of business in this branch of industry”. After short theoretical outline of questions of transformation and its impacts concerning to adaptation strategies and evaluation of footwear industry general development during last 20 years there are identified and worked out the factors which had the capacity to influence the effects of transformation processes on Czech footwear industry. Simultaneously there are suggested the strategies which the shoemakers chose to align with new established conditions. Working out of these factors has been used as a spring-board for empirical part of the Diploma Thesis. There these chosen strategies are consequently explored in two footwear organizations. They are Svit a. s. Zlín a. s. and Prabos a. s. Slavičín and in this way the explanation of the role of factors in case of successful and unsuccessful adaptation of companies is given. In the Diploma Thesis, the impacts of the footwear industry development into social sphere are also examined. As a point of departure is consider to be the course of transformation in selected social spheres in both mention companies but the situation is also compared with conditions in the whole republic.
