Is Russian Society Anomic?

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje otázce anomie v Rusku v uplynulých dvou desetiletích. Pomocí dostupných dat z Evropského výzkumu hodnot, statistik sebevražednosti a kriminality a také šetření, která byla provedena ruskými sociologickými agenturami WCIOM a Levada-center, sleduje, jak se měnila míra anomie ve společnosti v průběhu času a v různých sektorech ruské populace. Zvolené indikátory odpovídají teoriím anomie Émile Durkheima, Roberta Mertona a Leo Sroleho, na jejíchž dílech se zakládá teoretický rámec práce. Pozornost se věnuje především dopadům procesu perestrojky na sociální kohezi Ruska. Tento proces probíhal v letech 1985-1991 a zahrnoval komplex ekonomických, politických a jiných transformací. Kulturní trauma, které byla vyvoláno náhlou změnou normativně-hodnotového systému, a změna principu sociální stratifikace, kvůli němuž se Rusko polarizovalo na chudou většinu a bohatou menšinu, se staly hlavními příčinami prudkého zvýšení míry anomie ve společnosti a její dezintegrace. To se projevilo zaprvé ve zvýšení počtu sebevražd a rozšíření deviantního chování, jejichž kulminační body nastaly v 90. letech 20. století. Zadruhé se to odrazilo v postojích a názorech obyvatel, které charakterizuje ztráta jistoty co se budoucnosti týče a nedůvěra vůči vládě a jiným lidem. V největším ohrožení se ocitla mladá generace, která byla nucená se socializovat ve vysoce anomickém prostředí.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses the issue of anomie in Russia over the past two decades. With the use of available data from the European Values Survey, the statistics of suicide rates and crime, as well as investigations that were carried out by Russian sociological agencies WCIOM and Levada-Center, it is examined how the degree of anomie changed over time in various sectors of the Russian population. The selected indicators correspond to the theories of anomie of Émile Durkheim, Robert Merton and Leo Srole, whose research shape the theoretical framework of the thesis. The main focus is concentrated on the ramifications of the Perestroika and their influence on the social cohesion in Russia. This process lasted from 1985 to 1991 and involved complex economic and political transformations. Cultural trauma that was caused by a sudden change in normative and values standards, and the change in the principle of social stratification, which made Russia polarized into the poor majority and the wealthy minority, has become a main cause of the sharp increase in the rate of anomie in the society and its disintegration. Firstly, this is reflected in a growing number of suicides and popularity of deviant behavior with its peak in the 1990s. Secondly, it affected the attitudes and opinions of the population, which are characterized by the loss of certainty regarding to the future and mistrust of the government and other people. The biggest threat impacted on the youngest generation, which had been forced to be socialized in a highly anomic environment.
