How selected factors affect the interest in a vehicle scrappage scheme among old car owners in the Czech republic

Abstract:

V České republice je dle Svazu Dovozců Automobilů (SDA) průměrné stáří registrovaných automobilů 15,28 let (což je ve srovnání s EU o více než 4 roky) - řadíme se tak mezi země s nejstarším vozovým parkem v Evropě, který značně zatěžuje životní prostředí. Kontext práce tvoří dopady zavedení cenového zvýhodnění při koupi nového vozu (tzv. šrotovného) ve světě (Cantos-sánchez et al., 2018; Marin & Zoboli, 2020), a také faktory ovlivňující výběr nového automobilu (Chng et al., 2019; Choo & Mokhtarian, 2004). Konkrétně Chng et al. (2019) zjistil, že vliv environmentálního vnímání se projevuje pozitivně spíše u žen a starších lidí, přičemž výše příjmu a vzdělání patří mezi méně významné faktory. Choo & Mokhtarian (2004) mezi důležité faktory řadí i lifestyle - tato práce je navíc doplňuje o zájmy a další faktory. Sekundární data ohledně počtu nově vyrobených/registrovaných automobilů a jejich průměrné stáří v průběhu posledních deseti let byla čerpána z internetových zdrojů SDA a ACEA. Pomocí dotazníkového šetření byly zjištěny informace o respondentech (základní informace, zájmy, lifestyle, aj.) a také údaje o jejich vozidlech. Pomocí intervalů spolehlivosti a t-testů se zjistilo, že vybrané faktory (měsíční příjem, zájmy a lifestyle) ovlivňují zájem o šrotovné u majitelů automobilů starších 15 let na území České republiky. Mann-Whitney test rovněž zjistil, že jsou zde významné rozdíly mezi lidmi, co mají zájem o šrotovné a mezi těmi, co zájem nemají. Závěr vyhodnocuje, co je typické pro vlastníky starších vozidel a na jaké lidi by bylo vhodné cílit při zavedení programu šrotovného. Součástí je i doporučení pro Ministerstvo obchodu a průmyslu a Ministerstvo životního prostředí, pomocí něhož se mohou řídit při zavedení šrotovného. Rovněž je tato analýza trhu užitečná pro výrobní automobilové společnosti či automobilové společnosti EU (ACEA, CECRA, CLEPA a ETRMA) a Visegrádské čtyřky. Společně totiž chtějí nastartovat ekonomiku po krizi způsobenou virem Covid-19 pomocí programů na podporu obnovy vozového parku (AutoSAP, 2020).

Abstract:

According to the Car Importers Association (SDA), the average age of registered cars is 15.28 years in the Czech Republic (which is more than 4 years older compared to the EU) - we are among the countries with the oldest vehicles in Europe which significantly burdens the environment. The context of the work forms the impact of the introduction of a scrapping fee bonus when buying a new car in the world (Cantos-sánchez et al., 2018; Marin & Zoboli, 2020) and factors influencing the choice of a new car (Chng et al., 2019; Choo & Mokhtarian, 2004). Specifically, Chng et al. (2019) found out that the effect of environmental perception is more positive for women and the elderly. On the other hand, income and education are less important factors. Choo & Mokhtarian (2004) rank lifestyle as an important factor - this work also completes them with interests and other factors. Secondary data of the number of newly manufactured/registered cars and their average age over the last ten years were drawn from SDA and ACEA portals. The executed questionnaire survey gained information about the respondents (basic information, interests, lifestyle, etc.) and data about their vehicles. Used confidence intervals and t-tests found out that selected factors (monthly income, interests, lifestyle) affect the interest in scrapping bonus for car owners over the age of 15 years in the Czech Republic. The Mann-Whitney test also found out that there are significant differences between people that are interested in the scrappage scheme and the ones that are not. The conclusion evaluates what is typical for owners of old vehicles. It also recommends a process for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of the Environment that can follow in a case of introducing the scrappage scheme. This market analysis can be useful for car manufacturing companies and EU automotive companies (ACEA, CECRA, CLEPA and ETRMA) and the Visegrad Four, as they work together to kick-start the post-Crisis-19 fleet renewal programs (AutoSAP, 2020).
