Leptospira interrogans s.l.: comparison of detection methods in small mammals in relation to human disease

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce ve formě literární rešerše se zabývá skupinou bakterií Leptospira interrogans sensu lato, patřící mezi spirochety. Tyto patogeny způsobují zoonotické onemocnění leptospirózu, která může v některých svých formách být pro člověka smrtelná. V této práci jsou uvedeny obecné informace o těchto bakteriích, dále výskyt jejich sérovarů v České republice a vybraných evropských zemích, se zaměřením se na výskyt u malých savců. Jsou zde shrnuty i aktuální studie odchytu malých savců a jejich detekce na výskyt leptospir. Poté jsou sepsány tři hlavní metody detekce leptospir a dvě z nich, sérologické metody MAT a ELISA, jsou srovnány mezi sebou. Dále jsou uvedeny informace o leptospiróze, včetně způsobu přenosu na člověka. V závěru této práce jsou shrnuty informace o případech onemocnění jak na území České republiky, tak v Evropě.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis, in the form of a literature research, deals with the group of bacteria Leptospira interrogans sensu lato, belonging to the spirochetes. These pathogens cause the zoonotic disease leptospirosis, which in some of its forms can be fatal to humans. In this thesis, general information on these bacteria is presented, as well as the occurrence of their serovars in the Czech Republic and selected European countries, with a focus on the occurrence in small mammals. Recent studies on the capture of small mammals and their detection for leptospires are also summarized. Three main methods of leptospira detection are then described and two of them, the serological methods MAT and ELISA, are compared with each other. Additionally, information on leptospirosis is presented, including the way of transmission to humans. Finally, information on cases of the disease is summarized, both in the Czech Republic and in Europe.
