USA: many different countries in one - American cuisine

Abstract:

The topic of this undergraduate thesis is The USA: Many different countries in one American cuisine. In my thesis I tried to summarize the main features of American cuisine. The main thought of this work is a metaphor which compares the United States of America to gumbo because both, America as well as gumbo, are mixtures of cultures from various parts of the world. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first one is about American cuisine in general, about the cross-cultural features of it and about American eating habits and cooking methods. The second part is about Louisiana cuisine and its history. I have chosen Louisiana cuisine as the lighting guide of American cuisine. In my opinion Louisiana cooking style represents the character of American eating habits and multicultural character of the whole country. In the beginning I wanted to show the main influences of foreigner cultures because each of them affected the choice of ingredients, mixture of seasoning and cooking techniques. I focused on iconic dishes, their history and contemporary style of serving. The work should be an excursion to American kitchens, culinary history and it should introduce the icons of Louisiana cuisine.

Téma bakalářské práce je gastronimie ve Spojených státech amerických. V práci jsem se pokusila shrnout základní rysy americké kuchyně. Hlavní myšlenkou práce je metafora, při které je AMerika přirovnávaná k pokrmu gumbo. Oboje, Spojené státy i gumbo jsou směsí kultur z různých částí země. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, první je o amrické kuchyni obecně, ve druhé jsem se zaměřila na louisianskou kuchyni jako zářný příklad amerického multikulturalismu.
