Práce se pokouší vymezit teorii symbiogeneze a teorii Gaia vůči hlavnímu proudu současné biologie, neodarwinismu a prozkoumat vztah těchto teorií k antropocentrismu i jejich možný potenciál pro tvorbu environmentální etiky.
