Content diversity or Programme Parallels? The Structural Analysis of Programme Schemes of Selected EU PSB Main Channels

Abstract:

Televize veřejné služby, její proměny, úlohy a role v současné společnosti jsou často diskutovaným tématem. Ve spojitosti s problematikou televize veřejné služby se často hovoří o homogenizaci a o působení Evropské Unie právě na podobu vysílání veřejné služby. Otázka homogenizace a toho, zda vůbec existuje, a pokud ano, do jaké míry může být tento proces právě důsledkem spojení zemí v rámci Evropské Unie, byla hlavním tématem mojí práce. Rozhodla jsem se pro strukturální obsahovou analýzu programových schémat hlavních programů vysílatelů veřejné služby v celkem 6-ti zemích, rozdělených do dvou skupin – skupiny zemí původní patnáctky a zemí nově-přistoupivších, mezi nimiž jsem se snažila nalézt podobnosti a odlišnosti v jejich programových strategiích. Při podrobnějším zkoumání se ukázalo, že v podobě struktury zkoumaných programových schémat se odrážejí i jiné vlivy kromě EU jako je např. historie. Homogenizace sice do jisté míry v oblasti televizního vysílání probíhá, ale vliv sjednocení zemí v Evropské Unii není zásadní. Výzkumný vzorek však nebyl široký a závěry tudíž nemohu zobecnit na členské země EU celkově. Důležitým faktorem ovlivňujícím podobu programových schémat je také struktura programů jednotlivých zkoumaných stanic – ta byla velmi odlišná a srovnávání hlavních programů tudíž nebylo plně relevantní. Výzkum tedy má jisté nedostatky a do budoucna by bylo vhodné doplnit jej o kvalitativní analýzu, výzkum jednotlivých formátů pořadů a srovnat jejich podobu u vybraných stanic. Tento výzkum zkoumal pouze strukturu programových schémat a zastoupení jednotlivých žánrů ve zkoumaném týdnu, nic však již nevypovídá o obsahu pořadů a jejich kvalitě.

Abstract:

Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) television, it´s changes, functions and status in contemporary society is discussed very often these times. In connection with questions of PSB is talked about the conception of homogenization and influences of European Union on the structure of PSB. The question of homogenization and if it really exists, and role of Europen Union in it, whas the main theme of my work. I have decided for a structural content analysis of programme schemes of six public service broadcasters in six countries, which I devided into two groups – countries of the original fifteen members of European Uninon and the new members. I tried to find similarities and diferences between this two groups and it´s programming. During the research I find out that in the structure of programme schemes play it´s role other influences beside the European Union, like history for example. Homogenization is in some part under reconstruction, but the role of European Union in it is not radical. Analytical sample wasn´t wide, so I can´t generalize the outcome of analysis to all countries of European Union. Very important element influencing structure of programme schemes is the structure of channels of the broadcasters – it was very different in all servyed broadcasters so the comparison of main channels wasn´t really germane. The research has it´s inadequacies and in future will be more useful to use qualitative research in addition - survey also the formats of programmes and compare its look in different countries. This research surveyed only structure of progamme schemes and representation of genres in one week, but is doesn´t tell us anything about the contents and quality of programmes.
