Collection of solved examples - metric spaces

Abstract:

V této práci prostudujeme metrické prostory. Práce je zaměřena na didaktiku matematiky, neboť látku podává gradovaně a vede studenta otázkami k samostatnému studiu metrických prostorů. Začneme rozeznáváním metrik od nemetrik, u známých metrik si uvedeme i jejich běžná pojmenování. Budeme se také věnovat obecným transformacím metrik, tj. jakými konstrukcemi lze převést metriku na jinou metriku a jakými ne. Dále si ukážeme praktické využití metrických prostorů v autokorekci. V další sekci se podíváme na koncept otevřených a uzavřených množin a jak souvisí se stejnojmennými koncepty v topologii. Navíc si ukážeme i některé vlastnosti spojitých zobrazení a jak souvisí se spojitými zobrazeními v topologických prostorech. Úplně nakonec se podíváme na konstrukce metrik na součinových a faktorových prostorech.

Abstract:

In this thesis we will be studying metric spaces. The thesis focuses mainly on didactics of mathematics, since it introduces the matter in a gradual fashion and guides the reader to independent study of metric spaces by posing good questions. We shall begin by distinguishing metrics from non-metrics, we will also give the common names of well-known metrics. We will also devote our attention to transformations of metrics, i.e. which constructions can be used to transform one metric to another and which ones cannot. Furthermore, a practical example of metric spaces as used in autocorrection will be shown. In the following section we will take a look at the concepts of openness and closedness and how they relate to the eponymous concepts in topology. Additionally, we will concern ourselves with various properties of continuous maps and how they relate to continuous maps in topological spaces. Finally, we will study constructions of metrics on product- and quotient spaces.
