The Elements of Postmodernism in selected novels by Christoph Ransmayr

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with an analysis of novels Die letzte Welt and Morbus Kitahara by Christoph Ransmayr. The main topic of the thesis is the issue of postmodernism and its features which are demonstrated on the selected Ransmayr's novels. The thesis is also focused on relations between fiction and non-fiction. Further, connections between the content as well as formal aspects of both novels and their eventual interpretation are described. One of the chapters depicts the author's personal life.

Abstract:

Diese Diplomarbeit befasst sich mit der Analyse der Romane Die letzte Welt und Morbus Kitahara von Christoph Ransmayr. Für das Hauptthema steht die Problematik der Postmoderne, wobei postmoderne Intentionen an Ransmayrs Werken demonstriert werden. Diese Diplomarbeit konzentriert sich ebenfalls auf die Relation zwischen Fiktionalität und Faktizität in Ransmayrs Schaffen. Zugleich werden die Zusammenhänge zwischen der inhaltlichen und formalen Seite der beiden Texte gezeigt und ihre eventuellen Interpretationen erwähnt. Ein Teil der Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem persönlichen Leben des Autors.
