Daily mobility of urban population

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je studium problematiky každodenní mobility v prostředí současného postmoderního města. V práci jsou analyzovány současné přístupy ke studiu mobility v sociologii, geografii a dopravním inženýrství. Úvodem je provedena široká rešerše orientovaná na studium teoretických konceptů, které souvisí s lidskými aktivitami a dopravním chováním. Následně jsou diskutována teoretická východiska těchto přístupů, na základě kterých je formulován výzkumný rámec zdůrazňující význam lidských aktivit při studiu mobility. Samotné empirické šetření dopravního chování využívá přístupy kvalitativního výzkumu a kombinuje metody časových deníků a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Studovány jsou domácnosti v pěti různých životních cyklech a analýza si všímá denních vzorců dopravního chování dospělých členů domácností. Nakonec jsou výsledky empirické části konfrontovány s dopravní politikou akcentující přístup řízení dopravní poptávky při řešení dopravních problémů v dnešních městech.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to study daily travel behaviour in the urban environment within a postmodern city. First, contemporary studies of people’s daily mobility in social science, geography and traffic enginneering are analysed. Followed by a comprehensive review of all conceptual frameworks. The review focuses on concepts of human activity and travel behaviour. The conceptual frameworks are discussed and the framework for the empirical part is created. This concept follows a methodology of an activity-based approach. For the empirical part, methods of qualitative research are used, particularly travel and activity diaries and semi-structured interviews. The units of analysis are families and research is done among small number of adult members. All participating families were in different life cycles and their daily travel-activity patterns are analysed. Finally, the results of the survey are compared with travel demand management strategies which are used for solving traffic problems in postmodern cities.
