Criminal repression of opponents of Frankism

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se soustředí na trestní represi těch, kteří se postavili proti čtyřicetileté frankistické diktatuře a popisuje sociální, politické a kulturní souvislosti tohoto období. Autorka představuje historické pozadí a události, které umožnily Franciskovi Frankovi stát se hlavou státu a setrvat u moci jedné z nejdelších a nejkrutějších evropských diktatur. Diplomová práce nastiňuje právní prameny, zákony, činnost soudů a španělských orgánů umožňující vytvoření vhodného prostředí pro zničení jakéhokoliv odporu. Autorka dále zkoumá charakteristiky trestních represí vůči těm, kteří nevyhovovali nově nastolenému režimu a jaký dopad mělo toto potlačení opozice na vývoj španělské společnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis analyses the criminal repression suffered by those opposing the forty-year long Francoist dictatorship and describes this period's social, political and cultural context. The author presents the historical background and events that enabled Francisco Franco to become and remain as the head of state of one of the longest and cruellest European dictatorships. This thesis outlines the legal sources, laws, judicial activity as well as actions of the Spanish authorities allowing the creation of a suitable environment to destroy any resistance. Furthermore, the author examines the characteristics of criminal repression to those who did not comply with the Francoist regime and what impact it had on the development of Spanish society.
