Strengthening of integration of the visually challenged through spatial orientation taking into account architectural barriers

Abstract:

Samostatný pohyb představuje pro každého z nás důležitou složku života. Otevírá nám cestu k dalším činnostem, navazování sociální kontaktů i vyřizování si každodenních záležitostí. Považujeme ho za naprostou samozřejmost, kterou vykonáváme automaticky. Najdou se však mezi námi jedinci, jež to štěstí nemají. Zrakově postižení to mají díky svému handicapu ztížené. Z tohoto důvodu se bakalářská práce soustředí právě na prostorovou orientaci a samostatný pohyb nevidomých. Cílem práce je objasnit čtenáři důležitost výuky prostorové orientace jako nástroje posilujícího integraci zrakově postižených, a to ve vztahu k architektonickým bariérám, které jejich pohyb ještě více znesnadňují. Problematika bude zachycena na základě teoretických podkladů, které vymezí základní pojmy o zrakovém postižení a nastíní výuku prostorové orientace a samostatného pohybu s ohledem na architektonické bariéry. Teoretické zakotvení je provázáno s touto problematikou v praxi i z pohledu samotných nevidomých.

Abstract:

For each of us, independent body movement epitomizes a crucial component of life, opening a path for us towards further activities, social networking, and dealing with everyday matters. Body movement is considered to be something that absolutely goes without saying, and is carried out automatically. However, there are individuals among us who are not that lucky. Due to their handicap, the visually challenged do have matters aggravated. It therefore is spatial orientation and independent movement of the sightless that the present bachelor thesis focuses upon. The thesis aims to get across to the reader the message of the importance of instruction in spatial orientation (carried out) as a tool strengthening integration of the visually challenged, particularly in relation to architectural barriers that tend to even more aggravate the movement/travel thereof. The subject area is encompassed on the basis of a theoretical background seeking to establish core concepts relating visual disability, and provides an outline of instruction in spatial orientation and independent movement - taking into account architectural barriers. The theoretical embedding is inter-linked with the given subject area both in practice and from the perspective of the sightless.
