The objective of this diploma thesis is a literary critical analysis focused on a portrayal of a family and partnership in four selected novels of contemporary British author Ian McEwan. The thesis examines the elements which the novel characters of McEwan’s works use to preserve the cohesion of the family and partner ties, or, conversely, what leads to their disintegration.
